ROOF EXTENSIONS IN BRENT, LONDON
MW design have recently participated in volunteering work to help a charity that specialises in campaigning to save London's social housing from demolition and redevelopment. The current project has focused on a housing estate in north London targetted for regeneration. As part of a dynamic group masterplanning exercise, we helped produce designs for renovating a series of housing blocks around the existing cluster of shops on the estate.
Our proposal looks at rejuvenating the shops with new coherent frontages and signage, whilst also creating a new public square in front for informal markets and seating. Improvements would also be made to the existing housing with better access provided via new lift cores. Infill and densification has also been proposed, with new duplex roof extensions to be clad in standing seam zinc. In 2021, Brent council made the decision not to demolish the estate and favoured renovation and infill instead. The next stages involve securing funding for the works to take place. |
