HOUSE IN NOTTING HILL, LONDON
MW were asked to assist with the remodelling and renovation of a masonette forming part of an elegant Georgian town house in Notting Hill. The dwelling is entered through the lower ground floor which contains the bedrooms, bathroom and an under-used conservatory with access to a garden at the rear. The main living spaces occupy the ground floor level and benefit from dual aspect allowing plenty of light into the lofty high ceilinged rooms. Lastly, a discrete spiral staircase leads up to a small office space on the first floor of the outrigger.
The interventions focused on opening up and celebrating the grand, light filled reception rooms on the ground floor. A tired looking kitchen in the outrigger has been upgraded and moved into the main living space, complete with a new central island and a cooker that makes use of the existing fireplace feature. Similarly, an old cupboard and wall has been removed by the staircase, opening up the space and allowing a dining area nook to sit neatly in the corner of the room. Upgraded reclaimed oak floorboards and buff coloured mosiac floor tiles smarten up the central living spaces. On the lower ground floor, the bedrooms have been revamped with an improved en-suite and walk-in wardrobe to the master bedroom. The existing bathroom was looking out of date and in need of renovation, so a new shower, bath and tiling have helped enhance the bathroom. The use of a microfibre cement treatment to walls and flooring, as well as as new arch rounded doors and frames make the spaces look and feel contemporary. The client has focused on wanting to create cleaner, more open and liveable spaces with robust and easy to maintain materials. This project has recently been completed and our client is delighted with the outcome. |
